(New York, NY) – Divabetic, a U.S. based diabetes outreach nonprofit organization, proclaims June as Father Ur Diabetes Month and shines the spotlight on men and the women who love them with new monthly programming in observance of Men’s Health Month and Father’s Day 2012. “While Divabetic is widely recognized for its women’s outreach initiatives, this month we draw inspiration from a few dudes to influence the entire family, particularly the men, to take better care of their health and to prevent and manage diabetes,” states Max “Mr. Divabetic” Szadek, founder and executive director of Divabetic. 

Diabetes affects more than 346 million people worldwide, including 25.8 million in the United States. According to leading medical researchers, over the past 30 years, the biggest jump in diabetes diagnoses is among men - at a faster rate than women. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) reports only about half as many men as women have a regular physician and make about 30 percent fewer doctor visits every year than women. Further, amputation rates from diabetes-related complications are 1.4 to 2.7 times higher in men than women with diabetes.

Father Ur Diabetes Month gets underway on Mr. Divabetic’s YouTube Channel with the premiere of Diabetes Numerology Movie Awards 3 – War Horse. This Divabetic adaptation of the Oscar-nominated film features a tricky plot twist with a blood sugar low of 68. Diabetes Numerology presents entertaining scenarios and trivia to encourage those living with diabetes to develop the confidence to manage a diversity of health care situations. The channel also features a new episode of Classic Diabetes Myth Busters (2.0), featuring the Divabetic mascots of anthology, Zeus and Hera; Dancing in Cars, a diabetes  exercise video and the re-release of the diabetes prevention video, Keep Your House a Home and a foot care video, Save Your Soles. 

New program episodes on Diva TalkRadio, Divabetic’s online podcast channel, include a Studio d interview with Jessica Issler, RD, CDE, of Norfolk, VA, on the Golden Rules of a Diabetes Diet, which begins June 1 and continues throughout the month. Diabetes Roundtable Inspired by Rev. Run, airs live  Tuesday June 12 at 6:00 p.m. and features a whirlwind of wellness, laughs and diabetes education. Special segments in this 30 minute program inspired by the practicing minister, motivational speaker, family patriarch and revered founding father of hip-hop, include a discussion on prostate cancer and diabetes with certified diabetes educators Judi Wilcox, RD, CDE of Hollywood, FL, MaryAnn Nicolay, BA, of Cleveland, OH, and Neva White, MSN, CRNP, CDE of Philadelphia, PA; a Food Aisle Face-off between almond milk and soy milk; a menu review of healthy dining choices at Dave and Buster’s; a Makeover in a Minute with Kiauna Hunt, celebrity makeup artist and owner of Diva Status (Washington, DC); a From Diagnosis to Diva interview with Betty J. of Philadelphia, PA; a Father Ur Diabetes commentary with Divabetic’s Stan the Announcer Man and a Wack or Wow style trend review with Divabetic’s image and style adviser, Catherine Schuller.
