Last weekend saw the 2nd of Denbigh Army Surplus’ “DAS Resilience” challenge. An oppertunity for the company’s Facebook fan’s to put their map reading skills to the test…
At 6.20pm on Saturday 27th August a team of 3 from Wrexham were the first to reach a remote location deep in Clocaenog forest.
The team's leader, Chris Thompson, had seen Facebook posts related to the July DAS Resilience event and thought that he'd have a go.
Chris, aided by Danny Sandford and Dan Varley, cleverly made there way to the centre of the map (disclosed a week earlier) so that they were within striking distance by the time Denbigh Army Surplus published the 6 figure grid reference at 5pm.
DAS Resilience happens on the last weekend of every month
The remote location is published at 5pm on the company's Facebook page and can be anywhere in the UK
The required map with be disclosed one week in advance
There is only a prize for the Winner and the cache will contain between £200-£300 worth of outdoor and army surplus product.
Chris had commented several weeks earlier that his tactic would be to drive to the centre of the map and wait for the 6 figure grid reference, which seems to have paid off big time.
I really do feel forMartin, coming second place by such a short amount of time must have been extremely frustrating.
I'd like to thank ProAdventure in Llangollen and Cwni Cacen Gri in Betws Y Coed for their contributions. We're really grateful for the activity voucher and welsh cakes that they donated to the prize cache.

Hour 20 minutes... We'll have to do it faster next time

I only got the map at 3.50, I saw it on the internet last night. I'm from Nantwich... at about 5 o'clock I was just shy of Ruthin.
Five minutes late but it was good fun and a bit of excitement on a Saturday evening

Denbigh Army Surplus is a family run business that operates out of it's warehouse in Denbigh, North Wales.
We sell Army Surplus to members of the Armed Forces, TA and general public a like. The durability of the clothing and equipment we sell lends itself to the farming and building industries and we often get members of the motorbike and bushcraft fraternity in too.
We've been on the industrial estate for nearly 25 years and we intend to stay here for many more...
