All Aboard for October Steam Train Rides in Tuscany

During October, villas in Tuscany are the perfect base for steam train enthusiasts looking for something a bit special.

More Information

Railway enthusiasts are flocking to central Italy this October according to companies such as To Tuscany, the UK-based expert providers of villas in Tuscany.

The reason for this loco-exodus is that autumn is one of the best times to take advantage of the opportunity to ride on an otherwise disused line that is opened up on special occasions.

Thanks to the efforts of Ferrovie Turistiche, an association that has revived the old line that ran from Siena, through the Val d’Orcia to the villages of Mount Amiata. The special trips along this line take place aboard a steam train and are operated to coincide with special events in the area.

This year’s trips take passengers from Siena to Asciano for the Grape Harvest Festival at the very start of October and from Siena to Arcidosso and Castel del Piano for the Chesnut Festival on October the 23rd.
