Young tennis players from all over Wales will be heading to Cardiff for the Welsh Junior National Championships.
The tournament, which dates back to 1927, has attracted almost 250 entries, ranging from 8-and-unders Mini Tennis to adults, taking part in a tournament alongside the traditional Junior event.
It starts on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, with finals on Saturday September 1.
The championships are based at Cardiff (Castle) Lawn Tennis Club, with the Mini age groups starting at David Lloyd Cardiff before moving to the main venue.
Indoor courts at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC) are available as a back-up in the event of bad weather.
Top seeds include: Callum Findlay of Cardiff and Elin Anderson of Llandudno in the 12U age group; Matthew Story of Cardiff, playing in 14U and 16U; Joely Lomas of Swansea in 14U; Emily Watson from Colwyn Bay in 16U and 18U; and James Griffin from Cardiff in the 18U.
“This is one of the highlights of the year for Welsh tennis,” said Jenny Broughall, the tournament organiser at Tennis Wales. “The event has an impressive heritage and always attracts many of the top players from across Wales.”
Spectators are welcome, and admission is free.
