An exciting new weekend of cycling events is coming to the Isle of Wight this Spring. Cycle Wight on May 19th and 20th has a packed schedule of rides, with something for everyone.
Cycle Wight features mountain biking, road rides and family friendly leisure cycling to suit everybody. Based at Yarmouth’s scenic harbour front on the west of the Island, Cycle Wight is a great way to get away and enjoy one of the jewels of the south.
On Saturday the 19th, go off road and discover the Island's amazing network of bridleways, trails and cycle ways, with the aptly named Big Wight Mountain Bike Enduro and the free and easy Beach to Beach family ride. The Isle of Wight is one of the UK's best kept mountain biking secrets! 250 miles of public tracks and bridleways criss-cross the island over a series of lofty chalk downs with breathtaking sea views and and countryside at every turn! The Big Wight Enduro takes you on a grand tour of the very best of them with a choice of 25, 40, 80 or 90km rides!
Or for something more relaxing, enjoy a fun, free family ride across the Isle of Wight! Beach to beach starts from the Cycle Wight event arch on Yarmouth Harbour and takes you along the pretty causeway cycle path to Freshwater Bay. Grab a coffee or an ice cream, and relax by the beach for a while, then ride back to soak up the finish line atmosphere back at Yarmouth. It's a very agreeable flat, riverside ride, and just 5 kilometres in each direction - and it's free!
Sunday 20th of May features the most exciting new addition to the cycling calendar, the Wight Riviera Sportive! Sportives are cycling's equivalent of the marathon, and the Wight Riviera uses a new closed road format to give your ride a thrilling 25km traffic free circuit, before taking you on a grand tour of this magnificent Island!
Or you can just enjoy that 25km of scenic, traffic free, closed roads on it's own, as the Wight Riviera Ride! Enjoy the excitement of the mass start, then settle into the rhythm of this perfect seaside leisure ride and a fantastic day out on the Isle of Wight, before finishing back at the bustling event village on Yarmouth harbour front.
It's the perfect excuse to make a weekend or longer break of it! The Island is alive with places to stay, eat and drink, excellent family attractions and beautiful countryside. So discover the Isle of Wight by bike this Spring at Cycle Wight. You can find out more and enter events at cyclewight.co.uk.

The Isle of Wight is a cycling paradise that is home to some of the UK’s most varied terrain: lush velvet hills rolling into the sea, narrow lanes through tidy hedgerows, deep and mysterious green gullies, and the island’s most striking feature, the ridge of white chalk cliffs stretching across its breadth. Although cyclists have been enjoying its outdoor pleasures for decades now, it’s only been in recent years that Wight has started to attract young and trendy Londoners looking for a romantic weekend by the sea with a buzz – which gastropubs, slick hotels and a calendar full of festivals now provide.
