Cyclist in his seventies raises thousands for children’s charity

An intrepid grandfather from Magor has cycled across Wales to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

More Information

Bill Bewg, 70, from Magor in Gwent, took on the challenge of a 192-mile cycle ride from West to East Wales to raise money for Action for Children. Bill, who has been fundraising for Action for Children for 22 years, raised over £2,000 as a result of his latest long-distance jaunt, which ended in Chepstow.

Now retired, Bill began his epic three-day ride in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, cycling through some of Wales’ most stunning scenery, including Pembrey Forest, Pendine Sands and the Millennium Coastal Park near Llanelli.

Bill said: “As Action for Children celebrates its 100th anniversary in Wales this year, I wanted to mark the occasion by raising more money for the charity’s life-changing local work with children and young people, while setting myself a real challenge at the same time. What better way than to take on a long-distance ride through some of Wales’ most stunning scenery? Raising money to help fund the charity’s fantastic work was worth every saddle sore!”

Nina Rice, Fundraiser at Action for Children, said: “This was a fantastic challenge and a wonderful way of celebrating Action for Children’s 100th year in Wales. Every pound that Bill raised will make a big difference to our work with local families and vulnerable children. We are all tremendously grateful to him for his continued support and fantastic fundraising efforts.”

Action for Children runs over 130 services across 50 sites in Wales, supporting over 15,000 of the most vulnerable and neglected children, young people and their families in local communities.
