Jeff Shelstad, CEO and Co-Founder of Flat World Knowledge, the largest publisher of expert-authored and peer-reviewed open college textbooks, will speak on how technology can make higher education more affordable and accessible, at the 11th annual Back to School Investor Education Conference, hosted by BMO Capital Markets, September 15, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in New York City.
Shelstad will be a featured speaker on the panel, It’s Here: The Technology – Enabled Classroom, at the annual conference expected to attract the industry’s leading institutional investors and specialists and nearly 60 public and private education companies.
Flat World Knowledge is a commercial pioneer within the open content movement to make high-quality, educational course materials widely available to students and educators. The company’s year-over-year growth is a result of its disruptive business model, which dramatically lowers costs for students, and provides faculty with the platform and tools to control content in ways not possible with traditional textbooks.
Earlier this year, the company closed a Series B funding round with Random House, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments (BDMI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG, and Bessemer Venture Partners.
Prior to launching Flat World in 2007, Shelstad served as vice president and editorial director at Pearson Education and publisher at McGraw-Hill. He has personally acquired some of the most successful business textbook authors in print today.
