Atlanta, GA – As part of its mission to connect people, places, and palates, Go Eat Give is sponsoring Destination Afghanistan: A Night of Food, Music, and Fun. As part of its cultural awareness series, this local event and fundraiser is an opportunity for attendees to immerse themselves in the food, music and culture of a Central Asian destination, Afghanistan. This Atlanta international event is part of a series of events that allow attendees an opportunity to experience other cultures without having to leave town.
The event will take place on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Ariana Afghan Cuisine, 5785 Roswell Road Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30328. The restaurant's menu was created by Chef Najib Nawabi. Chef Nawabi migrated from Kabul, 30 years ago, after being injured in the Afghan-Russian war. Although he was partially paralyzed, he has opened several restaurants in Florida and Virginia, and he continues to cook from his wheelchair.
Owners Jalil and Nilo Aziz, brothers from Kabul and former Oriental rug business owners, will personally show you their true Central Asian hospitality. During the evening, you will get to enjoy a traditionally cooked multiple course Afghan dinner including the famous Kabuli pulao with lamb carrots and raisins, perfectly seasoned kebabs and delicious pumpkin stew...only to name a few!
In addition, Ruth Howarth, an Atlanta resident, who has been working as a Task Manager for Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army Site Assessments for past five years, will share her experiences. In particular, she will focus on present day life in Kabul how she and others have managed to create a sense of normality in a war torn city.
Tickets are 36 dollars per person, and include a 4-course family style dinner with a choice of beer or wine, speaker and entertainment! Ticket does not include gratuities. A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit the nonprofit organization, Go Eat Give. Tickets may be purchased at Eventbrite: http://destinationafghanistan-efbevent.eventbrite.com. Reservations in advance are required.
