Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce HSBC Bank Canada (HSBC) has donated $51,000 in support of business education programs for youth across BC for the 2011-12 school year.
HSBC has been a long-standing supporter of Junior Achievement with both funding and volunteer support through its staff, and specifically contributing $37,500 for the delivery and the revitalization of the Investment Strategies Program (ISP). ISP teaches students in secondary schools about investments and in particular, teaches how markets operate using a stock market simulation with real-time data from the stock exchanges, in which student teams compete to grow their portfolios. The new, improved program will feature updated content, more flexible lessons to suit a wide variety of classroom contexts, a redesigned website with all program materials provided online, and an online training tool to help teachers and volunteers learn the program. The new ISP is currently being piloted in both BC and Alberta, and will then be refined and launched in 2012.
In addition to program support, HSBC is contributing $7,500 in support of the Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame Gala Dinner & Induction Ceremonies, as well as $6,000 towards other JABC programs and awards. HSBC has also been integral in supporting JABC through employee volunteerism, by delivering Business Education programs and creating future business leaders.
Junior Achievement of British Columbia would like to thank HSBC Bank Canada for their ongoing support of business education programs. Junior Achievement of BC is a non-profit organization committed to inspiring and motivating BC’s youth to take an active role in their future through business education. To accomplish this goal, Junior Achievement works in partnership with dedicated donors, business volunteers, educators and community leaders to deliver programs to students in grades 5-12. HSBC Bank Canada’s contribution this year will help ensure that BC communities have access to the Investment Strategies Program.
