JABC Awards Presented to BC’s Top Enterprising Students

British Columbia – Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) is pleased to announce ‘Raincouver’ has won the coveted 2012 CIBC Student Company of the Year Award. This after-school program was staffed by high school students from Britannia Secondary School in East Vancouver. This is the second year in a row Britannia has claimed the award.

The company involved 30 students in grades 10 through 12 and volunteer advisors James Atherton from Great West Life, Paula Garcia from CIBC and sponsor teachers Lee Nipp and Ksena Tatomir from Britannia. The group reached all their goals, selling out their entire product lines, achieving an ROI of 102% for their shareholders and splitting a $500 charitable donation between two charities.

The award was presented last night at the “Celebrate JA!” event, sponsored by CIBC and held at SFU, Beedie School of Business in downtown Vancouver. Over 70 students were honoured at the reception for their outstanding performance, creativity, and demonstration of business acumen.  To be eligible for JABC’s highly competitive and prestigious awards, each of the students participated in one or both of JABC’s high school programs, JA TITAN or Company Program. 

Student award winners from Vancouver Island were recognized at a “Celebrate JA!” event in Victoria at Highland Pacific Golf Course.
