Vancouver, British Columbia – Junior Achievement of British Columbia (JABC) announces three business leaders to be inducted into the 2012 Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame: Brian A. Canfield, Dave Ritchie and Milton K. Wong. The new members will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at the seventh Annual Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremonies on May 24, 2012 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
The nomination process was guided by the executive recruitment firm Pinton Forrest & Madden, the Laureate sponsor. Prerequisites for induction include outstanding business achievements, enduring contributions to the province and country, as well as deep commitments to diverse and niche communities. These 2012 inductees have been chosen for their ability to direct their business education from the depths of their personal drive to sky-high global heights, while simultaneously developing industry backbone for BC.
A lifetime of experience at BC’s now-largest corporation, from installing the equipment to chairing the board:
Brian A. Canfield, C.M., O.B.C., D.Tech. (Hon) -- Chair, TELUS Corporation
Out of the conundrums of a small family business rose a billion-dollar, world-wide industry innovator:
Dave Ritchie -- Co-founder and Chairman Emeritus, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers
A global influencer and cultivator of integrated culture, community and social assets, from a simple stock start:
Milton K. Wong, C.M., O.B.C., LL.D. (Hon) -- Chairman Emeritus, HSBC Global Asset Management (Canada) Ltd
“Founded by incredible pioneers and furthered by outstanding leaders, BC is rich in individuals who have created platforms and pathways for continued business success and community leadership: something in which our future business leaders can be truly inspired and continue to build upon”, said Terry Lyons, Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame Co-Chair.
Final Laureate selection was made by an independent committee consisting of three Laureates: David Black, MBA (President & Owner, Black Press Ltd.), Henry H. Ketchum III, Chairman, President and CEO, West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. and Robert (Bob) H. Lee, C.M., O.B.C., B.Comm., LL.D. (Founder & Chairman, Prospero International Realty Inc.), and two non-Laureate participants: Nancy McKinstry, C.M., LL.D. (Chair, ICBC) and Lawrence Sauder (Chairman, Sauder Industries Ltd.).
Co-presented by Scotiabank Group and Fasken Martineau, the following May’s gala evening will include an elegant reception, a keynote speaker who will be unveiled closer to the event, and commemorative videos produced by Oh Boy Productions.
Proceeds from the gala ensure JABC builds upon being an influential, impactful leader in delivering business education, financial literacy and work-readiness programs to youth throughout BC.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS LAUREATES OF BC HALL OF FAME
The Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame is an initiative created by JABC to honour BC business leaders who have made outstanding contributions to our province and country. Founded in 2006, the Hall of Fame stands as a testament to the positive legacy Laureates provide to our enterprising youth. “They Built. We Benefit.” These words represent the foundation of the Hall of Fame. While they may have succeeded in different industries, different times in our history and different parts of this province, the Laureates all exemplify vision, leadership, and integrity. Their careers are legendary. In 2009, JABC unveiled a permanent site for the Hall of Fame at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Through this new landmark, people from all parts of the province will share a feeling of pride for these remarkable BC business leaders.
