The idea of creating personalised greeting cards is one which has always appealed. After all, who wouldn’t be touched, upon opening a card, to discover that the person sending it has actually taken the time to craft an individual and unique object?
The problem, however, often lay in the actually practicality of making such greeting cards. If you happened to be blessed with a degree of artistic skill then that was fair enough – you could draw or paint a card which looked every bit as good as those available in the shops, and the knowledge that you’d taken the time to do so would mean that the person receiving it felt extra special. For most people, however, the thought of creating something which, as well as being personal, was truly of excellent quality was far too daunting, meaning that the idea of personalised greeting cards remained just that, an idea, never to be realised.
The technology used to push forward the development of digital photography has changed this, however. It is now possible to create photo greeting cards which are every bit as well produced as those available on the high street, with the crucial difference being that they will feature an image hand chosen by you. This means two distinct things; firstly, the image you choose can be exactly tailored to suit the personality of the recipient and the occasion at hand. Supposing, for example, you wish to celebrate the fact that someone has just passed their driving test. What could be more apt or more touching than a card featuring a photograph of them, as a child, playing in their first toy pedal car? The second plus point of a card such as this will lie in the sheer fact that you’ve taken the time and trouble to create it. Rather than just picking something up in a shop, you’ve genuinely thought about the recipient and what they mean to you, and this thought and time will be reflected in the way they feel about your card.
Creating a card such as that detailed above is now incredibly easy – you don’t need artistic skill or even computer know how. All you need is the motivation and an image you wish to use. Upload said image to the relevant website and the software will guide you through the process quickly but simply – offering choices on matters such as the size and shape of the card, and any text you might wish to add.
The same is true when it comes to using multiple images to create online photo books. Bespoke photo books of this kind serve the same purpose as photo albums used to do – that of collecting and displaying your favourite images - the difference being that they do so to a standard of luxury and opulence which is usually only open to professional photographers showcasing their finest work.
No matter what you choose to do with your digital photographs you can precede safe in the knowledge that the practicalities have been kept as simple as possible, and the results will be both stunning and uniquely personal.
