London is full of historical landmarks, scenic attractions, and other sites that anybody in London, whether a resident or a visitor, simply must visit. Ride the London Eye, explore Buckingham Palace, visit the Tower of London – these are just a handful of things to do in London, and that’s barely even scratching the surface.
The prospect of visiting and exploring so many London attractions can be overwhelming. Attempting to do so will quickly fill up your calendar, and just as rapidly empty out your wallet. Fortunately, there is a way to see all (or most) of what the city has to offer without eating up all your time or breaking the bank.
Wheel around the city
If you want to get around London quickly, walking isn't the answer - you want to get yourself some wheels. Of course, not just any wheels will do. Hop on a London open top bus tour, and you can see the major attractions the city has to offer, all in just a few hours.
Your London bus tour, however, provides more than simple transportation. Riding along with you on the bus is an expert guide who will regale you with tales and share fun facts that add up into an entertaining history lesson. This “lesson” brings the city and its attractions alive – you don't simply see the city's sites from your bus, you get to experience, albeit through your guide's words, the essence of London.
Take a walk
Sitting in a bus, however, no matter how good your guide may be, can only give you a glimpse of the city's different attractions. Your guide can tell you all about the different sites on the route, but it all just amounts to words. For some sites, you simply need to hop off the bus, take a walk, and explore on foot. Fortunately, this isn't difficult to do.
If your guide's description of a certain site piques your interest, or if you had planned beforehand to visit a certain landmark, all you need to do is hop off the bus at the nearest stop on the route. Once on foot, you can go on one of many London walking tours to explore the city's specific attractions.
Get back on the bus
If you're afraid that hoofing it means the end of your open top tour, don't worry. The buses follow set routes around the city, and rejoining the tour is as simple as waiting for the next bus to arrive at your stop. Don't want to wait too long? Again, don't worry – the next bus should arrive in no more than 15 minutes.
Plan ahead
It's important to note that the fee for your open top bus tour probably won't be your only expense. There is a limit to what your tour package covers. You get to hop on and off the throughout the day, of course, and you may get one or two walking tours as well as other extras. However, you may have to fork over some cash to enter certain attractions, and you definitely have to plan for meals, snacks, and drinks.
Money isn't the only thing you need to budget either. With so many sites to see, and only so many hours in a day, you need to mind the clock. If you spend too much time on one stop, you might not have enough time visit some of the city's other attractions
