STAFF at a Gloucestershire farm shop saved Percy the Pigs bacon and now hes hogging the limelight in his house outside the store.
They made sure farmer Paul Grimes didnt do anything rash when they became attached to the Tamworth cross.
The piglet was destined for slaughter when he grew up but fate took a twist when he caught pneumonia in the snowstorms.
Percys plight warmed the hearts of Paul and his staff and now he has pride of place in his house outside Wotton Farm Shop in Bradley Road, Wotton-under-Edge.
Customers trot along to see him in their droves and Paul wouldnt dream of sending him off to slaughter now hes part of the family.
Paul rang the vet and got medicine for Percy and shop manageress Sarah Tremlin nursed him back to health with warm milk and Weetabix.
Percy isnt quite out of the woods yet as the pneumonia left him with damaged lungs and he still gets short of breath. He fell ill soon after Paul bought him, his mum and five brothers and sisters.

Normally, Percy would have gone to slaughter when he grew up but now hes being admired by all. Hes quite an attraction. All the customers come and see him and he grunts at them. Hes very vocal. We built him a house, where hes cosy and warm, and he also loves running around in his pen.
Paul Grimes - Farmer & owner of Wotton Farm Shop
He was the runt of the litter. The others pushed him out of the way when he tried to get food. He couldnt eat, he got weak, then the snow came and that was it for him. We put him in a nice, warm shed and had him under a heat lamp. He looked pretty sick. He was docile, his breathing was heavy and you could see his lungs were working hard. A couple of times we thought he was going to die but he pulled through.
