An “honored” Lady Gaga talks with Popdust to commemorate the site’s ‘Popdust 40’ launch
(August 9, 2011 – New York, NY) Today, leading pop music site Popdust (http://www.popdust.com) announced Lady Gaga as the number one artist on its newly released Popdust 40, a unique and comparative ranking of the world’s greatest pop music artists.
Justin Bieber came in at number two on the Popdust 40. Kanye West, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry rounded out the top five.
In an interview, Lady Gaga spoke to Popdust editor-in-chief Craig Marks to discuss her creative ambitions, the tragic death of Amy Winehouse, and the current state of pop music:
“I think pop is ever changing, and I hope to death it never stops being so…When I wrote Born This Way I told everybody I wanted to make a whole bunch of stars and bananas and fish and flags and all sorts of things that don’t fit anywhere, and I wanted to make them fit. I fought to make them fit.”
The Popdust 40 counts down the best pop music artists, forty through one, based on eleven original categories that measure artistic merit, commercial success, charisma, stagecraft, sex appeal, and passion of fanbase.
“We wanted to come up with a system that quantified the attributes that matter most to pop music fans,” says Craig Marks. “The PD40 is like fantasy football for pop geeks."
