The new Wight Riviera Sportive is already selling fast, hardly surprising for a sportive with a road closure and a ticket price lower than some regular open road events! And the Wight Riviera is now adding even better value, Thanks to support from the Isle of Wight’s ferry operators.
The event is supported by both Wightlink and Red Funnel ferries, and Red Funnel are the first to announce their discounted travel package for the event; 20% off for vehicles crossing on their Southampton to Cowes service. This makes it possible to cross to the event for less than £40 return, which with tickets valid for up to six people in one vehicle, breaks down to less than £10 per head return. The offer is valid from 18-22nd of May making it ideal for building the event into a family or group weekend.
The Isle of Wight is a truly stunning destination to take your bike, even making the Lonely Planet Guides' list of the worlds ten best cycling destinations in 2011, for it's varied mix of hills, landscapes and stunning views. And with closed roads to ride and cheap tickets to get there, the Wight Riviera Sportive is shaping up into the perfect way to discover this hidden gem!
To benefit from Red Funnel's discount offer, visit either southernsportive.com or cyclewight.co.uk, where you can find a booking form for the discounted ferry offer. Book early for best rates.
Red Funnel run regular ferry services from Southampton to East Cowes. The crossing takes about an hour, on comfortable and spacious modern ferries.
The Wight Riviera Sportive features the new Sportive Avantage format, and includes a 25km closed road loop. It is the first cyclosportive in the south of England to include a major road closure.
The Isle of Wight is a cycling paradise that is home to some of the UK’s most varied terrain: lush velvet hills rolling into the sea, narrow lanes through tidy hedgerows, deep and mysterious green gullies, and the island’s most striking feature, the ridge of white chalk cliffs stretching across its breadth. Although cyclists have been enjoying its outdoor pleasures for decades now, it’s only been in recent years that Wight has started to attract young and trendy Londoners looking for a romantic weekend by the sea with a buzz – which gastropubs, slick hotels and a calendar full of festivals now provide.
