The VMS Short Film Channel is the first to bring the world of film festivals to a mobile smart phone arena, new mobile technology from Iron Road, VMS’ parent company, allows for international access and submissions to the festival. This provides independent filmmakers with an outlet for gaining recognition of their films in a worldwide setting of filmmakers and film enthusiasts. VMS also promotes social networking for the everyday independent filmmaker and art film fan.
For decades now, prestigious film festivals such as Sundance, Cannes, Toronto and Tribeca, have been awarding unique, inventive, and profound films with the highest of acclaim. Yet, while these films receive such eminent standing, most go unnoticed by the majority of today’s art-house film fans. “I got involved in the VMS Short Film Channel because I was seeking a way of accessing acclaimed independent filmmaking myself, and also wanted to bring it to others who share my passion,” says Sarah Strunin, a participating director for the Short Film Channel.
With independent filmmaking receiving praise from film festivals internationally, it seems that this genre is taking a forefront in the world of art-film. But what about the thousands of promising independent filmmakers worldwide that go unnoticed, and the countless number of independent film enthusiasts who don’t have access to these exclusive and expensive film festivals? VMS Short Film Channel and Festival, an independent short-film festival in its inaugural year, brings the world of film festivals to a global audience, providing an outlet both for independent filmmakers to gain international recognition of their films, and for film enthusiasts to have access to these acclaimed short films. The Short Film Channel is a festival that is entirely web and mobile phone based, providing access to virtually anyone with internet, smart phone or tablet technology.
