More Information

In this modern era of digital technology, we all are surrounded by lots of iphones, tablets, laptops and various others digital accessories. We should know the basic about these gadgets so that we can handle and use them properly. Every digital device is equipped with some standard set of protocols so that it can be well connected with another digital device. For e.g. if we want to connect our mobile phone with our television (TV) then we have to use HDMI mini port available at the mobile end with the another HDMI port available at the back of television. Thus to make compatibility between the electronic gadgets worldwide they are made to support some of the basic protocols set IEEEE and other international organizations. So basically we will be discussing the different type of ports available worldwide. They are VGA portDVI port and HDMI port along with their cables, connectors and converters. VGA (Video Graphics Array) port is one of the world’s most popular and used ports among electronic devices. It is an analog signal port usually used for low resolution video signal like monitor with a computer system. While DVI (Digital Visual Interface) and HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) are digital signal carrier. DVI port only carries digital video signal while HDMI port carries audio as well as video signal. DVI port is a bit old in market but HDMI is comparatively new concept that will be getting popular soon in future.

VGA port (Video Graphics Array) – VGA is the most used and popular protocol among digital devices, it is basically used for connecting display devices. For e.g. if we want to connect our monitor to connect with our computer system, then we will be using a VGA connection between the two devices. VGA port is an old concept as it contains noise on the display unit. A VGA port can’t be used for a higher resolution video, its starts transmitting noise along with video signal. To overcome this issue there comes the concept of DVI and HDMI. These both carries digital signal and both are free from noise.

DVI port (Digital Visual Interface) – is not as popular as that of VGA. It’s comparatively a new idea in digital revolution. DVI is better than VGA in transmitting a video signal as it doesn’t transmit noise along with video signal. However devices with a DVI port are little bit costlier than the traditional electronics ones and so are VGA cables and connectors.

HDMI port (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) – It is one of best connectivity solutions for most of the new Smartphone, televisions and modern gadgets available in market. HDMI is made for transfer of high definition media including audio and video both. A HDMI port is mostly available in every smart phone and high end monitors and TV sets.

There are various types of HDMI ports available which supports different devices. A standard HDMI port is used for devices like TV and computer, a mini HDMI port is used for devices like laptop and digital camera while a micro HDMI port is used for devices like mobile phones.

There are various connector and converters available in market which can be used to convert from one port to another. Like from HDMI port to DVI and VGA port and also there are converters available which converts from DVI to VGA. So if you are planning to purchase any electronic devices or gadgets make sure that they contain at least one of these connecting ports, more preferably HDMI port.
