You heart is racing, your body is sweating, your eyes are tearing, and all you can think about is when can I do that again? You have officially had a life-changing experience; your eyes are wide open and you are ready to explore your heart and discover a dream- all after being on your feet for 12 straight hours! You have just completed your first South Dakota State (SDSU) State-A-Thon Dance Marathon. College students along with faculty, alumni, and community members will not only enjoy a jam packed day of activities, but they will stay on their feet for 12 consecutive hours to stand for those who can’t!
The day is jam packed with live entertainment, three free meals, college students, faculty, alumni, Miracle Families, and community members all wearing the free tshirt you get at the door! All we ask of you is that you raise a minimum of $75 before attending to aid in our grand total goal of $40,000 for Children’s Miracle Network- oh and be ready to have a ton of fun! This can be done by sending emails or letters to friends and family, going door-to-door in your neighbor hood, or even hosting your own fundraising event! However, if you are interested in learning more before you donate, please feel free to attend the event free of charge and take in the atmosphere of a truly inspiring day.
Every aspect of planning, fundraising, having fun, and hanging out with these children is based on our favorite acronym: FTK! (For the kids)
The day begins with an opening ceremony showcasing the Miracle Families as we bring them in to share their touching stories (throughut the event) of how Children's Miracle Network and the SDSU State-A-Thon have changed their lives for the better. These particular children have endured more pain, surgeries, broken bones, and even chemo treatments before their 5th birthday than most of those in attendance have experience in their lifetime. These families are true warriors!
It only takes one State-A-Thon experience to understand the excitement of the words "Morale Dance"! This particular dance is learned by all at the event and then played sparatically throughout the day so everyone can stop what they are doing and allow their innerchild to come alive by dancing their hearts outs and boosting the morale! This particular dance changes every single year so participants never know what's next!
The remainder of the days events and timeline is kept secret to those in attendance to create a day of spontaneity and surprise! This year's marks the 11th annual SDSU State-A-Thon, which will be held Saturday March 24th, 2011 from 10am-10pm at the Volstroff Ballroom (VBR) in the Student Union!

Children's Miracle Network (CMN) -- Children's Miracle Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses its efforts on aiding sick or injured children and their families as well as raising awareness for the benefit of helping our future generation. CMN is proud of the three hallmarks, listed above, that make this nonprofit unlike any other.
South Dakota houses two Children's Miracle Network hospitals, the closest in Sioux Falls- Sanford Children's. Therefore, 100% of all funds raised through the Sioux Falls CMN team along with the SDSU State-A-Thon remain right in our area helping local families throughout their medical journey in hopes of relieving certain stressors from families during such trying times. CMN funds are also allocated towards life-saving equipment, research, medications, travel vouchures, gas cards, meal cards, and hotel stays in return for knowing that each family is able to focus all of their attention to their sick child.
