Why a show choir? Flynn Center Education Director Christina Weakland says, “We have been producing musicals cast with local teens to standing-room-only houses for the past three summers. It’s a program that we’re very proud of, and one that is both exciting and wonderful. But it can also start out painfully, because the brutal truth about casting a show is that no matter how hard you try or how deeply connected you feel to a specific character’s plight, you may not be the right fit (or perhaps the only right fit) for a given role. A show choir model lifts that boundary, giving every kid involved the chance to try on a slew of different characters from different shows, as an exuberant team.”
