The Media Maven & Broadcast Legend Beatrice Thompson To Be Inducted Into The Womens History Hall of Fame

In addition to being the first African-American to anchor a newscast in Charlotte and she is still breaking local records hosting two of Charlotte's highest rated radio shows; the daily news show "The Front Page with Bea Thompson," as well as the acclaimed Sunday Talk show, "Straight Talk with Bea Thompson," both on WBAV FM and the Sunday morning program, “Power in the Community” on WPEG. Ms. Thompson is also the host of “Queen City Limits” a television talk show program in cooperation with the city of Charlotte, and a special correspondent for NBC 6 “Charlotte Today” magazine program.

The Women's History Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Charlotte Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc. in partnership with the Levine Museum of the New South and will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Levine Museum of the New South, 200 East Seventh St. The reception will begin at 5:00 pm., followed by the Induction Ceremony at 5:45 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the NANBPW at 704.455.7205.

  1. Thompson is one of four accomplished women who will be inducted March 23 into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Women's History Hall of Fame.

  2. The celebration is jointly sponsored by the Levine Museum of the New South and the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Inc. - Charlotte Club.

  3. In recognition of Women's History Month, the event was created to celebrate women in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County who have blazed trails, broken barriers and initiated programs that have affected the community.

  4. Fifty-three women from diverse walks of life have been inducted since 2000. This Hall of Fame is the only one of its kind in North Carolina.

  5. The national organization was founded in 1935. The Charlotte club started in 1977 under the leadership of Anna Hood.
