Core Facts

  1. With the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's annual Northern Residency programme will connect over 10,000 adults and young people with live orchestral music this September 14 - 18, 2009.

  2. The TSO works closely with the host cityÂ’s local orchestra to present the public concerts (September 15 in Sudbury with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra and September 17 in Sault Ste Marie in partnership with the Algoma Conservatory, the Algoma Fall Festival and the Sault Ste Marie Symphony Orchestra) on each orchestraÂ’s concert series.

  3. The TSO Northern Residency concerts feature solo performances from TSO Principal Trombone Gordon Wolfe and TSO Trumpet James Gardiner.

  4. While in each city, TSO musicians travel to local schools, performing small ensemble concerts designed for young listeners, as well as conducting masterclasses for student musicians.

  5. While in Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie, the TSO Education team will distribute to each English school board, How the Gimquat Found Her Song, an interactive Study Package intended to assist teachers in delivering the new 2009 provincial music curriculum. These materials were developed by the TSO in partnership with Platypus Theatre and Oz Media.

Quotes
